ABOUT US

Whyalla Diving Service dive shop is located at 33b Playford Ave, WHYALLA SA 5600.

The Dive Shop is open Monday to Friday 9am-6pm, and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 6pm. Access from the parking areas at the rear of our premises is available also.

We have been operating this business since 1984. (At the current location since 2002).

We offer a full range of recreational diving services including sales and service, training, air fills , hydrostatic tank testing, resort dives, charters and trips. We also provide nitrox fills for qualified divers for $12.

We also offer a full range of hire equipment including everything needed to see the amazing cuttlefish aggregation which occurs in the waters of Point Lowly and Black Point, a short 20 minute drive north of the town of Whyalla.

The aggregation of the Giant Australian Cuttlefish, sepia apama, occurs late April or early May to late August early September annually.

The shallow, sheltered waters along the peninsula allow easy shore access to see one of the most spectacular marine events anywhere. While the visibility is generally good at this time of year, the waters can range from 16 degrees C, down to a chilly 11 degrees C.

This means that divers and snorkelers need to equip themselves with the correct divewear to get the most out of the experience. For most visitors this will mean dive boots and fins, a body liner (full length undergarment), adequate wetsuit, gloves, hood, mask and snorkel, and a weight belt (optional for snorkelers). Dive socks and vests offer extra protection for those who feel the cold, and dry suits can provide full protection.

Scuba divers will need a buoyancy vest, regulator and tanks in addition to the scuba gear mentioned above.

Whyalla Diving Services has a full range of the latest equipment, in good condition and well maintained and serviced. We can (and have) catered for larger groups of up to one hundred divers. We can also cater for younger divers and snorkelers. We can usually provide for everyone, with notice.

We can also provide guides for groups who want to have their visit organized and conducted by our certified and friendly staff. Many of our visitors want to experience the spectacular cuttlefish aggregation on scuba. We offer dives for unqualified divers, conducted on an

individual basis by a dive instructor, to a maximum depth of 10m. (Resort Dives.)

Diving with the Giant Cuttlefish is generally done from shore, and there are many access points along the six kilometers of coastline where the cuttlefish aggregate. This diving access is free and unrestricted. Divers are asked however, to observe the cuttlefish diving guidelines which are shown on this website.

There is also an obligation to protect the environment by attending to your litter, taking due care entering and leaving the water at the various dive sites to minimize our footprint, and ensuring that we have minimal impact on the Cuttlefish and their eggs.

Whyalla Diving can provide boat access by boat charter if required – (often requested by film crews, scientists and environmentalists, and anyone who prefers the ease and the convenience of a boat dive.)

The business has been owned and operated by Tony and Marlene Bramley for the past 33 years.

We try to cater for most diving needs, and to provide a welcoming and enjoyable experience during your visit.

Call  - 0886458050 for information and updates – come in and have a chat. Tea and coffee are usually available, although it can get a bit crowded at times during the cuttlefish season.
